Pegs

Basics – set of strings: can to tight or loose due to changes in humidity, temperature, or improper winding of strings on them.

Pegs often tend to release or sticking due to changes in humidity and temperature, or because they were incorrectly wound. For pegs that’s escapes recommended just cleaning. Just relax and wipe the string the cone fine wool piece. You may need an additional cleaning inside on the peg hole. Do not use blades to clean, it can damage the wedge where the contact peg and the box. Do not push strongly the peg in the hole when the peg dropped, as this can be broken the box that holds the pegs.

With pegs that’s too tight, try to put a little bit peg paste pegs in places of contact with the box (never force them if they are turned hard). Pegs paste _ is the best way to help them turn a bit easier, but use it sparingly as it can lodge anywhere and the pegs have to start dropping.

Sometimes pegs do not contact well with the box, in this case, pegs having to be replaced. Cracks in the box, pegs that appear on the other side go to the luthier for qualified repair.

Essential for the proper operation of the pegs is winding of the strings and how density are they contact inside the box. When replacing strings or pegs not working well, proper winding of strings is essential. Place the string into the hole on the peg ( let it show 1-2 mm on the other side ).

Make a winding on the side of the hole that is farther away from the head of the peg. Then start approaching windings towards the head of the peg, as by the pressure of the last 2-3 windings to the box depends how much free will rotate this peg. Make several attempts to achieve optimum density pressure of the last winding of the most convenient rotation of the peg.
